Mirror, pearl and shifting light.
Chrome is a fine pigment rubbed onto the gel and sealed under a top coat, so the nail reads as metal or pearl rather than as a colour. At our Calgary studio it is added as nail art to a manicure, overlay or extension set: across the whole nail, along a French edge or in small placed details.
A chrome finish is not a polish colour. A fine pigment is rubbed onto the gel until it covers the surface evenly, then sealed under a top coat. Depending on the pigment, the nail turns into polished metal, a soft pearl or a colour that changes as the hand moves.
Because the finish reflects light, it shows the shape of the nail very clearly. As the note on Mirror Chrome French on Long Coffins puts it, the level surface chrome needs is built long before any colour goes on.
Chrome also sits well beside other effects: a chrome French is still a French, and a pearl finish can go over a gradient or a plain colour.
Chrome is nail art, not a separate service. It goes on top of the manicure and coating you book, such as a Gel Manicure or a set of Nail Extensions. Chrome across the whole nail is priced as Simple Nail Art & Design; a chrome French edge, a gradient under the chrome or placed chrome details move a set to Medium Nail Art & Design.
Every look above shows its full price and books in one step. For a different chrome look, book your manicure with the design and add a photo of the look you want.
Chrome is sealed into the gel coating, so it wears like the coating beneath it: two to three weeks on a thin levelling base, and three to four weeks over Gel Overlay or extensions. Long nails often need an earlier return, usually within two and a half to three weeks.
Other effects are on our Cat-Eye Nails and French Nails pages, and every design tier is on Nail Art & Designs.
Nails finished with a chrome pigment rubbed onto the gel and sealed, so the surface reflects light like metal or pearl. With pearl chrome the colour underneath still shows through, so it reads pink over a pink base and lilac over a lilac one.
No. Chrome is nail art added to a manicure, overlay or extension booking. Chrome across the whole nail is priced as Simple Nail Art & Design; a chrome French edge, a gradient under the chrome or placed chrome details is priced as Medium Nail Art & Design.
Pearl chrome is soft and milky, with pink and blue in its sheen; the base colour stays visible through it. Mirror chrome is a bright metallic reflection, gold or silver, that hides the colour beneath. On our sets, pearl covers the whole nail and mirror chrome sits along the free edge as a French.
A reflective finish shows every ridge and dip under it. The nail is levelled with the manicure and the gel before any chrome goes on, which is why chrome is done over a gel coating rather than on a bare nail.
As long as the coating beneath them: two to three weeks on a thin levelling base, and three to four weeks over Gel Overlay or extensions. Long nails often need an earlier return, usually within two and a half to three weeks.
Yes. Add a photo and a note when you book, and the technician sees them before your appointment.
