The copper is concentrated where the marble is darkest. Against the pale sections it would disappear and the marble would lose its depth.
The story behind it
Most of the set carries a marble of burgundy, black and white through a pale base, with copper foil concentrated in the darkest sections. The rest are flat burgundy, which is what keeps the pattern from turning into noise.
